FATHERHOOD: The Musical

Book by Joe Thompson, Music & Lyrics by Phil Martin

Fatherhood is an old-fashioned musical comedy revue that explores and celebrates the very modern trials and tribulations about being a father in today's society. Written by Joe Thompson and Phil Martin, Fatherhood takes you on a joyous and tuneful ride from conception to infinity. As fathers, or as wives watching their husbands, can you ever forget the first time you held your child, changed his diaper, sang a lullaby as you rocked her at two in the morning or had to answer the inevitable questions about "sex"? All of that and more are celebrated in this hilarious new musical.

In Act One we are humorously faced with conception, birth, the first overwhelming realizations of fatherhood and a number of options in surviving teenager-hood.

Act Two takes us further into the growth of father and children from handing his car keys over for the first time to handing his precious daughter away in marriage.

Fatherhood requires five very versatile men—age is not important as they all travel the years from the first moments of fatherhood through to the joyous days of grand-fatherhood. One female makes brief, occasional on-stage appearances and is used for the majority of the voice-over work in the production.

The show is orchestrated for a small combo of piano, bass, drums and guitar.
